Know Which Health Rules You Should Be Following

29 Apr

If you thought following experts’ advice to be healthy makes you really healthy, then it would be best if you would reconsider. Research studies are done every now and then that support previous studies or debunk them. Similar to the latest gadgets that come out of trend faster than you can say the word onomatopoeia, rules about health are also quickly replaced. Know some of the health rules that don’t make much sense by reading the rest of this article.

  1. Keeping a normal BMI. Probably the best determinant of body fitness among any other tools is the Body Mass Index (BMI). Normal values of BMI are between 18.5 and 25. More than 25 indicates being overweight, while less than 18.5 says the otherwise. Recent studies show that those who have a BMI score of 25 to 30 (overweight) had the lowest risk of dying, while mildly obese people who have BMI scores between 30 and 34.9, had no higher chance of death than those with those with normal BMI scores.
  2. Working out everyday. A research published in Medicine & Science and Sports & Exercise shows that people who exercise 4 times a week burnt more calories than those who exercise 6 times a week. The reason behind this is that working out on an alternate basis empowers you and makes you physically capable for the physical activities of your daily life. In a nutshell, if you exhaust yourself, you won’t be able to do things efficiently.
  3. Having a drink a day is good for your health. There are accounts saying that a glass of alcohol a day is beneficial for the health. That is true, but the harm it does to the body outweighs the benefits. New researches have found out that daily alcohol consumption accounted to up to 60 percent of deaths from seven different types of cancers. Before you think on sipping a glassful, think twice.
  4. Don’t eat too many eggs. Eggs are undeniably high in cholesterol, but recent a study conducted with over more than 250,000 people found out that there is no evidence that eggs are bad for the heart. Eating an egg per day doesn’t increase the risk of heart disease or stroke. Eggs are rich in protein, vitamins A, E, and D that nourishes the body.
  5. Take a supplement for calcium. It is recommended, especially for adults, to take a calcium supplement since daily food intake isn’t enough to supply the recommended calcium needs of the body. New research shows that doing so may put your heart in jeopardy. People who got the majority of their calcium from supplements are more than twice as likely to suffer a heart attack compared to those who took no supplements. Sudden increased serum calcium levels (hypercalcaemia) can lead to abnormal waves of the heart as seen in an ECG reading.

Upon reading the facts about some health rules above, you may be surprised that not all that allegedly makes you healthy really work. That is why you always have to be updated with the innovations in health. Research the net about health stuff whenever you have the time using your personal computer or your smartphone. Remember, it pays to know which health rules you should be applying because doing something that isn’t right may put your life at risk.
